Loretta Fahrenholz

born 1981 in Germany

Loretta Fahrenholz is a video artist. She creates abstract documentaries in which a significant role is played by performance, movement and dance. Her films are a commentary on the current socio-political reality, unmasking the power structures and the mechanisms of subjugation.

In “Ditch Plains,” Loretta Fahrenholz sketches out the post-apocalyptic landscape of New York city’s blue-collar suburbs after Hurricane Sandy. Collaborating with the dance troupe Ringmasters Crew, the artist created an unnerving picture of a city deep in crisis. Like avatars in a catastrophic computer game, the dancers traverse the ravaged and desolate outskirts of a metropolis steeped in darkness.
