Ada Karczmarczyk

born 1985 in Poland

Ada Karczmarczyk is a multimedia artist, performer, blogger and singer. She describes herself as “a collector of my own mishaps and blunders, always confusing names and faces. I am a lover of pop culture.”

Karczmarczyk’s work revolves around identity creation via a series of short video performances published on the artist’s blog. In them, she nurtures her constellational image as a romantic dreamer, ardent Catholic and pop star. Having a light, pop music video aesthetic, the films are a record of the artist’s day-to-day activity as she struggles with reality and female dilemmas.

Her private life and domestic affairs become the field on which we observe how a reflexive look into oneself and affective experiences mingle with the search for authentic closeness. Karczmarczyk hopes to establish an interactive dialogue with viewers nearby – not only physically in the space of the gallery but also on the other side of the computer screen – as she invites viewers to co-experience her daily tribulations and fantasies.
